Cooler Tips – Ocean Isle Style

A prime essential for a day on the beach is a well-stocked and reliable cooler. It’s important to stay hydrated and fortified with snacks or a meal. Below are some tips based on our years of experience to help make your day easy and comfortable

What to Pack in Your Beach Cooler

A well-stocked cooler is one of the easiest ways to make a full beach day at Ocean Isle Beach more enjoyable. With a little preparation at home, you can stay fueled and comfortable without cutting the day short. Here are some practical snack ideas to get you started.

Start with a Good Cooler Setup

Before loading up on food, make sure your cooler is up to the job. Use plenty of ice or ice packs, start with a layer on the bottom, add your drinks and cold items, then cover with more ice. A cooler with a tight seal will hold temperature much longer, especially on a hot summer day.

Friendly reminder that glass containers/bottles are not allowed on the beach. Refillable bottles are a great option.

Fresh Fruit and Vegetables

Cold fruits and vegetables are some the of the most refreshing snacks you can bring to the beach. It is hydrating, easy to eat, and holds up well in the cooler.

•       Watermelon slices

•       Grapes

•       Sliced strawberries or mixed berries in a container

•       Apple slices with individual peanut butter packets

•       Baby carrots, cucumber slices, and celery with hummus cups

•       Mango or pineapple chunks

Protein Snacks

Protein-based snacks help keep everyone full throughout the day. These options travel well and are easy to eat at the beach. Here are some good solid snacks to consider:

For a longer beach day, sandwiches and wraps are a solid midday option. Wrap them tightly in foil or plastic wrap and keep them in the cooler until ready to eat. PB&J is a reliable classic, but turkey and cheese, chicken Caesar wraps, or veggie wraps all work well.

Sweets and Treats

•       Frozen grapes (freeze the night before and they double as ice packs)

•       Chocolate-covered pretzels in a sealed container

•       Granola bars or rice crispy treats

Drinks

Staying hydrated is important on a warm beach day. Pack more water than you think you will need, it’s always better to have too much than not enough. A few tips:
