Ocean Isle Beach Keeps Drawing Me Back

The idea of sand between my toes, a gentle sea breeze hitting my cheeks, and hearing waves lapping the shore makes me dream of getting away to Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina. It’s the kind of break my family craves and keeps me coming back year after year. It’s a small-town beach with a big heart. Friendly folks, fresh seafood, and days that make you forget what time it is. Ocean Isle Beach has a way of slowing life down, where kids play until sunset, parents can relax, and creating fond memories comes easy.

Here’s some personal thoughts on how to find your Ocean Isle Style and plan a memorable beach vacation.

Simple Fun Everyone Can Enjoy

One of the best things about Ocean Isle is you don’t have to go far to find fun. When the kids (or grandkids) need to burn off some energy, Town Center Park in Ocean Isle Beach is always a hit. There’s a wonderful playground, shaded picnic spots, spray park and more in one spot. There’s plenty of room for everyone to spread out and have fun.

If your family leans more toward adventure, The Swamp Park has ziplining, guided ATV rides, and boat tours through the cypress trees. It’s the kind of outing that keeps everyone talking long after you’re back at the beach house.

For something more low-key, Ferry Landing Park is a great spot to slow down. Pack a snack, toss in a fishing line, or just watch the sun drop over the Intracoastal Waterway. Or if you want some indoor exploration, the Ocean Isle Museum & Ingram Planetarium is a fun way to spend an afternoon — it’s educational, hands-on, and a hit with all ages.

A Few Tips for an Easy Visit

A little insider knowledge makes every trip smoother.

Parking: Paid parking is available around the island. You can find rates and hours on the Town of Ocean Isle Beach.

Beach Access: There are plenty of public access points, some with restrooms and showers. If you have little ones, it’s worth checking the map ahead of time for the most convenient spot.

Where to Stay: From cozy condos to roomy beach houses and comfortable hotels, there are plenty of places to stay. Larger groups will likely enjoy houses and condos, while local hotels offer easy, convenient options.

Good Eats, Island-Style

Let’s be honest, good food is half the reason we love beach vacations.

Mornings at the beach need to start with coffee and something tasty. A couple great options are Drift Coffee Shop & Kitchen, or a box of made-to-order donuts from Blondiez (they disappear fast, so grab a few extra).

For lunch, Ocean Isle Fish Company and Sharky’s Waterfront Bar & Grill are tried-and-true favorites, especially if you like your seafood with a view. If you’d rather mix it up, Causeway Gourmet and Sand Dollar Bar & Grill have plenty of local flavor too.

When dinner rolls around, locals often point visitors to Jinks Creek Waterfront Grille or The Isles Restaurant & Tiki Bar - both offer great food, beautiful views, and that laid-back coastal feel that makes every meal feel unhurried. These are only a few of the wonderful options.

Make It Your Kind of Vacation
